Engineers Score Big Liberty League Over Union

TROY, NY - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team started the weekend with a 6-3 victory against Liberty League rival Union today in Karl Steffen Ballpark.

Three Engineers had multi-hit performances, led by Michael Lebenson's 3-for-4 day at the plate. Aidan Hicks Ayush Kirshnappa tallied two hits each as well.

Mike Nelson claimed the win on the mound after allowing just one Union hit in 6.0 innings.

The Engineers did all their scoring in a two-inning span, as RPI plated three runs in each of the third and fourth frames.

Krishnappa drove in two runs with a third-inning single and Julian Scarpa blasted a two-run home run to center field as part of the rally in the fourth.

RPI also manufactured a run on the base paths in both its big offensive innings. Hicks sprinted around to score in the third on a Union error in the outfield and Levesque stole home an inning later. Jon Primerano, Ian Oehlschlaeger, and Matt Chotiner accounted for Engineer runs, additionally.

The two sides will wrap the three-game weekend series with a Sunday doubleheader in Schenectady.
