Engineers Split with Union, Secure Home-Field in Liberty League Crossover Series

TROY, NY- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team clinched home-field advantage in next weekend's Liberty League crossover series with a victory at Union this afternoon.

The Engineers registered a 15-4 win in the first game of today's doubleheader, with Jon Primerano, Ian Oehlschlaeger, Kameron Leversque, and Charlie Lapp tallying two hits each to guide RPI to the win.

Rylan Wade supplemented the offense with 6.0 innings of strong pitching on the mound.

Lapp gave the Engineers a 1-0 lead in the second inning with his first of four RBI in game one.

RPI would score four more runs in each of the next two innings to propel ahead 9-0. Levesque singled home a pair and Scarpa logged a run-scoring groundout in the third before Ayush Krishnappa blasted a grand slam to left in the fourth.

Lapp expanded the lead to 12-0 with a three-run triple in the seventh.

Krishnappa, Primerano, and Oehlschlaeger produced RBI in the eighth and ninth innings, additionally.

Five different Engineers scored two or more runs, with Oehlschlaeger and Levesque coming around a team-high three times apiece. Hicks, Primerano, and Krishnappa also touched home twice each.

Krishnappa and Alex Coombes each had an RBI in the first inning of game two, which saw Union come away with an 8-5 win. Krishnappa scored Hicks and Oehlschlaeger before coming around on a Coombes single on the next batter.

Oehlschlaeger would later double home Hicks in the seventh as well to cap the RPI scoring in the finale.

With two victories on the weekend, the Engineers secure a top-two finish in the Liberty League's east division, giving RPI home-field advantage in a three-game crossover series this Saturday and Sunday.
