Hicks' Walk-Off Gives RPI Split with League-Leading Skidmore

TROY, NY - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team took one of two from Skidmore today to finish the three-game  Liberty League series against the Thoroughbreds. The Engineers were edged 6-2 in game one before taking game two 11-10 in walk-off fashion.

Aidan Hicks tallied two hits in the opener before logging four base knocks, including the game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth of the finale.

Walker Abdallah finished 4-for-5 with two runs in game two. Abdallah and Hicks comprised a group of five Engineers to score two runs in win, as Jon Primerano, Ian Oehlschlaeger, and Kameron Levesque all crossed home plate twice. Oehlschlaeger posted a three-hit effort and Primerano was on base four times with two hits and two walks.

RPI was behind 5-0 in the third when Primerano doubled home a pair and Krishnappa plated another with a sac fly as part of a three-run bottom inning. The Engineers would move ahead an inning later, with Hicks, Oehlschlaeger, and Ayush Krishnappa all contributed two-out RBI hits to put RPI ahead 7-5.

Skidmore scored the next five runs to re-take the lead in the top of the sixth, but Oehlschlaeger blasted a solo home run in the sixth and Charlie Lapp drove in two in the seventh to level the action at 10-10.

The Thoroughbreds nearly plated manufactured a go-ahead run in the eighth, however Levesque threw out a runner at the plate from left field to keep the score tied.

Levesque would later lead off the bottom of the ninth with a double before scoring the winning run on Hicks' single through the right side.

Zach Zajac earned the win after allowing just two base runners in 3.0 innings of relief. Zajac struck out five.

Hicks accounted for the Engineers' only two runs in the game one setback. Hicks scored on a Primerano sac fly before coming around on a single by Krishnappa.

RPI hit the road for a Tuesday non-conference at Middlebury before coming back to Steffen Ballpark for five consecutive home Liberty League contests.
