TROY, NY- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team defeated RIT twice today to win the best-of-three Liberty League crossover series.
The Engineers took opener 6-3 before tallying a 11-0 eight-inning victory in game two
Rylan Wade struck out 10 over 6.0 innings and Ayush Krishnappa blasted a solo home run to highlight the game one triumph.
Krishnappa's solo shot put RPI up 1-0 before Michael Lebenson and Kameron Kevesque worked together to manuafacture three runs in the third. Lebenson doubled off the wall to score Ian Oehlschlaeger while Levesque plated Krishnappa and Lebenson with a single to center in the big inning.
RIT scored three times in the sixth to cut the margin to one, however RPI put two more on the board in the bottom of the seventh to increase the advantage to 6-3.
Krishnappa and Lebenson finished with two hits, while Oehlschlaeger reached base three times. Krishnappa and Oehlschlaeger also led the offense with two runs each.
Oehlschlaeger and Krishnappa were the offensive catalysts in the finale as well, as the duo each went 3-for-4 with two runs. Oehlschlaeger, Lebenson, and Jon Primerano drive in three RBI apiece, with the latter scoring a team-high four runs, including a walk-off three-run home run to help RPI reach the run rule in the bottom of the eighth.
Oehlschlaeger left the yard with a two-run homer and Lebenson had two run-scoring doubles in the closing win. Aidan Hicks drove in one with a double, additionally.
Liam Riordan, Ben Belliss, and Cam Heuer limited to the Tigers to just two hits over the eight innings of game two.
The series victory advances the Engineers to next weekend's Liberty League Championships, with seeding, opponent, and host details still to be confirmed.
