Softball Registers Sweep at St. Lawrence

CANTON, NY – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) softball team swept St. Lawrence 1-0 and 13-7 today in a the final Liberty League doubleheader of the spring.

Ryleigh Falvey scored the go-ahead run on an Evann McDowell sacrifice fly in the top of the 10th inning to give the Engineers the only run of game one.

Addison Shaffer had three hits to lead the RPI lineup in the opener. Callista Adorno tallied two hits and Sydney Speanburg, Maddy Brooks, Sarah Decker, Falvey, and McDowell also logged one base hit each.

Ava Markert and Gaby Heim held the Saints scoreless through all 10.0 innings in the circle. Markert started and later re-entered the circle to earn the victory.

Eight different Engineers had at least one hit in the second game of the day, which saw the Engineers score nine runs across the first two trips to the plate.

After loaded the bases in the first inning, Decker and Brooks provided RBI singles before Olivia Termi walked in another run. McDowell closed the first-inning scoring with a sac fly.

Shaffer and McDowell recorded the big hits in the fifth-run second inning as well, with the duo each logging two-run doubles in the stanza. Decker added RBI singles in the second and third frames as well.

Shaffer, Adorno, and Lauren Cosselman crossed home plate two times each, while Speanburg, Decker, Brooks, and Termi all scored one run. Speanburg and McDowell finished the finale with two hits each, additionally.

The Engineers will next begin preparations for next weekend's Liberty League Tournament, with host location, seeding, and game times still to be determined.
