TROY, NY – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) softball team defeated St. Lawrence 8-0 in five innings to advance out of the Liberty Legaue tournament play-in game this morning.
Callista Adorno finished 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Addison Shaffer had two hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs as well.
Sydney Speanburg,
Maddy Brooks, and
Ryleigh Falvey all produced one hit, one RBI, and scored one run apiece.
RPI scored seven times in the bottom of the second inning to sprint ahead early. Falvey, Speanburg, and
Evann McDowell produced bases-loaded RBI for the Engineers before Adorno drove in a pair of runs with a single to right field. Shaffer would leave the yard one batter later to finish to rally and
Maddy Brooks helped RPI reach the run rule with an RBI-groundout in the bottom of the fifth.
Ava Markert allowed just two bases runners in 5.0 innings to secure the win in the circle.
The victory advances the Engineers to a 12:30 pm contest this afternoon against Rochester, the tournament's host and top seed.
