ROCHESTER, NY – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) softball team fell 4-1 in the Liberty League playoffs against Rochester, the tournament's host and top-seed this afternoon.
The Engineers, the fourth-seed in the tournament, had
started the day with an 8-0 victory in play-in game earlier this morning against St. Lawrence, advancing them to an afternoon meeting with the Yellow Jackets.
Rochester scored the first four runs of the contest to stay on the winners side of the bracket. The hosts received a three-run home run from Riley Laygo in the bottom of the third before tacking on another run in the fourth.
The Engineer's lone run of the game came in the top of the seventh when
Callista Adorno scored on groundout by
Maddy Brooks.
Addison Shaffer logged a team-high two hits in the setback. Brooks added one hit, as did Adorno and
Sydney Speanburg.
With the result, the Engineers will now face either Clarkson or Ithaca tomorrow at 12:30 pm.
