Men’s Soccer Plays to Season-Opening Draw with Emerson

TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw in its season-opener against Emerson today in ECAV Stadium.

Scoreless through halftime despite a 6-1 shot advantage, the Engineers broke through in the 57th minute when Ben Tymeson finished a corner-kick delivery from Owen Filler. Tymeson perfectly headed home the Filler service into the right side of the net to give RPI a 1-0 edge.

Emerson found its equalizer 20 minutes later after being awarded a penalty kick in the 76th minute. Zac Osmond, who drew the penalty in the Engineer's box, stepped to the spot and converted to level the match at 1-1.

Rensselaer finished with a 7-6 edge in shots and held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. Noah Churchill made two saves between the posts for the Engineers.

RPI returns to action on Sunday afternoon, when it hosts Marywood at 12:00 pm.
