TROY, N.Y. — A first-half strike from
Maddy Kaminski proved to be the difference as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over Plattsburgh State in non-league action at ECAV Stadium.
Kaminski found space inside the box just before halftime, as she slotted home a finish following a deflection off a Cardinal defender in the 41st minute. The Engineers almost doubled the margin late in the second half when an
Delaney McMorris attempt drilled the right post of the Plattsburgh goal.
Plattsburgh generated 11 total shots, including six on frame, however RPI goalkeeper
Audrey Montero came up with five saves to earn the clean sheet. The Cardinals also held slight edges in corners (7-5) and shots (11-6), but were held off the scoreboard thanks to a stout defensive effort by the Engineers.
RPI will be be on the road for the next three games, beginning with a noon contest at Hartwick on Saturday.
