ONEONTA, N.Y. – Despite generating a flurry of chances and posting a season-high 18 shots, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Hartwick College this afternoon at Elmore Field.
The Hawks netted the game's lone goal in the 16th minute, when Millie Caldon collected a loose ball and finished from close range. That tally proved to be the difference, as Hartwick withstood a determined offensive effort by RPI throughout the match.
RPI peppered the Hartwick goal with 18 total shots, 10 of which were on frame, but could not find the back of the net. Mikayla Piersa was a stout in goal for the home side, recording 10 saves to preserve the clean sheet.
Meadow O'Connell led the Engineers with three shots on target, while
Sarah Sedlacek and
Maddy Kaminski each had two shots apiece.
Audrey Montero made one save in the RPI net, as the RPI defense limited Hartwick to just three total shots in the game.
The Engineers return to the pitch tomorrow with a road match at Oneonta. Kickoff is set for 12:00 pm.
