CASTLETON, VT –
Annabelle Bachhuber scored the lone goal early in the second half and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team controlled play throughout the evening, defeating Vermont State Castleton 1-0 tonight at Dave Wolk Stadium.
Bachhuber netted the game-winner in the 50th minute, slotting a shot into the side netting from outside the box to break a scoreless deadlock. The Engineers controlled possession and dictated tempo from the outset, holding a 29-3 advantage in total shots, including 14 on goal. Bachhuber also earned a penalty kick opportunity in the 43rd minute, however Castleton goalkeeper Emma Ezzo made the save to keep the match level.
RPI continued to press in the second half, generating quality scoring chances and forcing Ezzo into 13 total saves.
Clara Krumholz and
Rachel Borra each produced three shots on target, with eight different players registering at least one shot on goal.
Ava Gaboury earned the shutout in net, recording two second-half saves to help RPi register its second clean sheet in as many games.
Winners of three of their last four contests, the Engineers are back in ECAV Stadium to host Drew University at 1:00 pm on Saturday.
