TROY, N.Y. – A timely goal midway through the second half was the difference this afternoon, as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's soccer team picked up a 1-0 victory over Oswego State in ECAV Stadium.
The breakthrough came in the 58th minute, when a crisp sequence on the left side led to a clean finish by
Harrison Brownlow. After a well-weighted setup by
Shiloh Brown, Brownlow slotted the ball into the net to give the Engineers a lead that stood for the remainder of the match.
RPI held a decisive edge in attacking chances throughout the day, registering 12 total shots to Oswego's three, including a dominant 11-2 margin after the break.
Sam Shmukler generated five of those attempts for the Engineers, and both
Joshua Jarden and
Andy Palm tested the Oswego keeper with shots on goal.
At the other end of the field, the RPI defense limited the Lakers to just one shot on target. Goalkeeper
Noah Churchill turned away that lone effort to secure the clean sheet.
The Engineers will next travel to Oneonta for a 2:00 pm tilt on Saturday.
