ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision at SUNY Oneonta today at Red Dragon Field.
SUNY Oneonta opened the scoring just over eight minutes into the match, when Joe Holder found the back of the net off a feed from Zach Tanner at 8:06. Less than a minute later, Holder struck again, his time with an assist from Luigi Prosperi, to give the Red Dragons an early 2-0 lead.
RPI responded in the 26th minute, cutting the deficit in half on an unassisted strike from
Thomas Corcoran. The Engineers continued to apply pressure and broke through again before the break, as
Sam Shmukler tied the game at 2-2 with a 36th-minute goal assisted by
Gavin Jell.
The deadlock was broken shortly after halftime when Sam Rogers tallied the decisive tally for Oneonta in the 52nd minute, set up by Zach Rabadi. RPI totaled seven shots overall, with two on target.
Noah Churchill made five saves in goal for RPI, including four critical stops in the second-half to keep the Engineers within striking distance.
RPI returns to action on Wednesday a 7:00 pm home tilt against Plattsburgh State.
