Engineers Storm Past ECSU for Fourth Straight Win

TROY, N.Y. — The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey team opened the scoring just 85 seconds into the game and never looked back, defeating Eastern Connecticut State University 6–1 today at Harkness Field.

The Engineers wasted no time grabbing the lead as Sophia Brown scored just 1:25 into the opening quarter, finishing a feed from Kylie Secker for the early 1–0 advantage. Less than five minutes later, RPI doubled the margin when Ella Pasquarelli found the back of the cage off a pass from Ria Patel at the 6:05 mark. The first-quarter scoring continued for the Engineers in the 13th minute, as Secker scored one of her own to make it 3–0.

Brown struck again midway through the second quarter, scoring her second of the day on an assist from Grace Johnson to push the lead to 4–0 at halftime. The Engineers did not let up out of the break, scoring twice more early in the third quarter. Patel added a goal to her stat line just 57 seconds into the second half, converting on a pass from Emily Dubord, before Khushi Saini capped RPI's scoring in the 32nd minute off a second assist from Patel.

RPI controlled the game in every statistical category, outshooting ECSU 25–8 and holding a 17–4 advantage in shots on goal. The Engineers also earned 15 penalty corners while allowing just three.

Brown led the way with two goals, while Patel tallied one goal and two assists. Secker contributed a goal and an assist, and Saini and Pasquarelli each scored once. Johnson and Dubord each notched one assist, and goalkeepers Tess Garchinsky and Olivia Brovak combined for three saves in the win.

The Engineers will continue their three-game homestand against SUNY Brockport at 2:00 pm on Saturday afternoon.
