Women's Soccer Begins Liberty League Play With Scoreless Draw Against RIT

TROY, N.Y. — The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw with unbeated RIT this afternoon.

Despite the Tigers' persistent attack, the Engineers held strong defensively, anchored by a standout performance in goal. RPI goalkeeper Audrey Montero turned away all nine shots she faced, including seven in the opening half alone, to earn the clean sheet. Her effort was critical in keeping RIT off the board, as the Tigers fired a total of 18 shots and earned six corner kicks during the match.

The Engineers' defense was organized and resilient, limiting RIT to mostly low-percentage chances while clearing away a number of dangerous opportunities. Greta Heldman, Keleigh Nihart, Delaney McMorris, and Sophia Byron all played the full 90 minutes on the back line, contributing to the team's second shutout in three games.

Offensively, RPI was limited to one shot in the match, coming off the foot of Maddy Kaminski midway through the second half.

The visitors from Rochester had a balanced attack, with 10 different players recording at least one shot. Valeria Luzio, Bella Coccio, and Amerie Mills led the way with multiple efforts each, but Montero and the RPI back line consistently turned them away. One of RIT's best opportunities came in the 80th minute when Emma Pedro's shot rang off the left post.

RPI continues its homestand with another Liberty League matchup, as Skidmore is set to visit ECAV Stadium for a 7:00 pm meeting on Wednesday night.
