ITHACA, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's basketball team lead every minute of tonight's 60–49 win at Ithaca.
Siena Smith paced RPI with 13 points and
Tyler Hormazabal delivered 12 points and a team-high eight boards and three steals.
Sophie Costello added 10 points with four steals and three assists as well to help the Engineers win their fifth game in the last six contests.
Brooke Boyle staked the Engineers to an early lead with a pair of first-quarter threes, Costello jumped a passing lane for a fast-break layup,
Niamh Gendron added a three-pointer from the wing and a late put back to make it 19–13 after one.
After an even second quarter, the RPI advantage widened after the halftime break, as Hormazabal turned a steal into a coast-to-coast finish and added another runout moments later, Costello pushed the lead with a transition layup, and Smith drilled a right-wing three for the night's first double-digit spread.
Megan Heyns beat the horn with a three-point play for 42–33 through three.
In the fourth, Costello struck again in transition and found Gendron on the break, Smith knocked down two at the stripe, and Costello knifed to the rim to keep the advantage at arm's length. When Ithaca tried one last push,
Molly Libby buried back-to-back daggers from deep to keep RPI in control.
Gendron supplied eight points and six rebounds, Boyle totaled six points and six boards with two blocks and three steals, and Libby tallied eight points. As a team, the Engineers logged 13 steals, marking the ninth time in the last 10 games that RPI has accumulated double-digit steals.
