RPI Defeats Skidmore to Remain Perfect in Dual Meets

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's swimming & diving team stayed perfect in dual meet action with a 191–109 victory over Skidmore this afternoon.

RPI opened the day with a runner-up effort in the 200 medley relay, as the quartet of Ellen Lorentz, Audrey Lewis, Elizabeth Rose, and Vera Korff clocked a time of 1:52.52. Lorentz went on to post an individual win in the 100 backstroke (59.33 seconds), followed by two runner-up finishes in the 200 back (2:12.62) and 200 individual medley (2:18.48), rounding out an impressive three-event slate.

Caroline Steeves edged Lorentz for thex 200 back title with a winning mark of 2:11.45 and also placed second in the 100 back (1:00.61). Sierra Pargett once again proved to be a force in the sprint and mid-distance freestyle events, touching first in the 200 free (1:57.33) and 100 free (53.83) while placing second in the 50 free (25.05). She capped her day as the anchor of the victorious 200 freestyle relay team, which included Korff, Rose, and Theresa Funderburk, finishing in 1:39.68.

Korff added an individual victory in the 50 free (24.39) and took second in the 100 butterfly (59.55). Hannah Goddard notched a win in the 200 butterfly (2:12.28), leading a one-two RPI finish ahead of Corinne Boyle (2:17.73). 

Elizabeth Rose took the top spot in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.35 and later helped secure both relay finishes. Katie Pierce came away with a win in the 200 breaststroke (2:34.86) and placed second in the 100 back (1:12.15), while Audrey Lewis added a second-place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:35.23). Gwenyth Snyder delivered a strong swim in the 500 freestyle, finishing just one second off the leader at 5:31.33.

Ella Simpson continued her outstanding season on the boards with wins in both the 1-meter (247.05 points) and 3-meter (271.35 points) diving events. She was followed by Jessica Campise, who secured second place in both events with 214.65 points (1-meter) and 242.70 points (3-meter), ensuring a sweep of the top two diving spots for RPI.

The Engineers next host Hamilton on Saturday at 1:00 pm in Robison Pool.
