TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's basketball team used a strong press defense to force 30 Bard turnovers and generate 21 steals in a 70–44 Liberty League victory today at ECAV Arena.
Tyler Hormazabal and
Siena Smith led the Engineers with 16 points each. Hormazabal shot 7-of-10 from the floor while Smith buried four three-pointers in a 5-for-6 shooting effort.
Brooke Boyle delivered nine points,
Callie Flynn added six points and a team-high five rebounds, and
Danielle Strauf handed out four assists off the bench as RPI's reserves totaled 37 points.
Four different Engineers registered three or more steals in the win, with Smith's six takeaways topping the defensive effort.
Sydney Blaney had five steals, Hormazabal notched four, and Boyle recorded three. RPI earned 29 points courtesy of Bard turnovers.
The first of the three consecutive home games, the Engineers will continue their homestead with a Friday meeting versus Union. Tipoff is set for 5:30 pm in ECAV.
