RPI Offense Goes Cold at League-Leading Union

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's basketball team fell 62–41 to Union today at the Viniar Athletic Center.

Siena Smith paced RPI with nine points on 4-for-6 shooting, while Sophie Costello added seven points with four rebounds and two assists and Sydney Blaney chipped in five.

Molly Libby finished with four points, while Callie Flynn battled for a team-high six rebounds and Niamh Gendron added three points and three boards.

After Union took a 33–18 lead into halftime, RPI's posted its best run of the game out of the intermission break when Smith set up Costello for a top-of-the-arc three to cut it to 39–23, but Union immediately countered with a Grace Ceseretti triple and another Ardito make from deep as the margin stretched to as much as 24 points in the second half.

The Engineers shot 25.0% from the field and were held to 13.6% from three (3-for-22). Union enjoyed a 44–34 advantage in the rebound column to maintain its first place spot atop the Liberty League.

The Engineers return home next weekend to host William Smith at 5:30 pm on Friday.
