PRINCETON, N.J. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team carried a second-period lead into the final frame but was outscored late, falling 5–2 at #20 Princeton University tonight in ECAC Hockey action at Hobey Baker Rink.
RPI opened the scoring early in the second period when
Luciano Wilson broke through at 1:20, finishing a strong even-strength shift off assists from
Gunnar VanDamme and
Dovar Tinling.
Princeton answered with a short-handed goal midway through the period, but RPI responded once again as Wilson struck for the second time at 10:24. Tinling picked up his second assist of the night on the play as Wilson snapped home his fourth goal of the year to restore a 2–1 RPI advantage heading into the second intermission.
The Tigers tied the game at 4:07 of the third period and took the lead less than three minutes later with the eventual game-winner at 6:58. A Princeton power-play tally at 11:24 and an even-strength goal at 15:34 provided the final margin.
Freshman goaltender
Nate Krawchuk made 14 saves through the full 60 minutes, keeping the Engineers within striking distance throughout the contest.
RPI continues its ECAC road weekend tomorrow night with a matchup at #8 Quinnipiac, with puck drop set for 7:00 pm in Hamden, Conn.
