Engineers Shut Out Hilbert at Home

TROY, N.Y. — The RPI football team remained unbeaten in Liberty League play with an 83-0 victory over Hilbert College this afternoon at East Campus Stadium. The Engineers scored 55 points in the opening half and improved to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in conference action.

RPI opened the scoring with a 39-yard touchdown pass from Justin McCormack to Nate Ehui before Kayden White added a 13-yard touchdown run and McCormack scored from one yard out to give the Engineers a 21-0 first-quarter advantage.

The Engineers broke the game open with five more touchdowns in the second quarter. McCormack connected with Eli Reider and Connor Cruz for scores before Frankie Garbolino found Grayson Hunter for a 64-yard touchdown. Garbolino then added touchdown runs of five and 38 yards to send RPI into halftime ahead 55-0.

Ehui opened the second half with a 71-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, while Jake Henehan, Ethan Gilson, and Sergio Hernandez each added rushing scores over the final two quarters.

McCormack completed six of nine passes for 112 yards and three touchdowns, while Garbolino threw for 69 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 62 yards and two scores. Henehan led the Engineers on the ground with 63 yards and a touchdown as RPI accumulated 495 yards of total offense, including 291 rushing yards.

The RPI defense held Hilbert to just six total yards and minus-eight rushing yards while recording 17 tackles for loss and four sacks. Joe Dechiaro and Thomas Mackell led the Engineers with six tackles apiece, with Mackell adding two tackles for loss and a sack. Arthur Hrycak also recorded a sack, while Patrick O'Keefe and T.J. Chadwick each contributed sacks in the shutout effort.
