RPI Limited Versus Union

TROY, N.Y. — The RPI women's soccer team battled Union through a scoreless opening half before a second-half goal lifted the Garnet Chargers to a 1-0 Liberty League victory this afternoon at ECAV Stadium.

Union generated the majority of the early pressure, but Ava Gaboury was sharp in goal for RPI. Gaboury made six first-half saves, including stops on Emily DeSousa, Taylor Bovardi, Hannah Sams, Julia Bancheri, and Ashley Sheldon, to keep the contest scoreless through the opening 45 minutes.

The Engineers also created several opportunities before the break. Elsa Ryan put RPI's first shot on goal in the 15th minute, while Ava Davey forced another save from Union goalkeeper Maya Koster just before halftime. Sophia Byronalso added an attempt as RPI went into the intermission tied 0-0 despite being outshot 12-4.

Union broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute when Sams finished a setup from Bovardi to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage. RPI continued to push for an equalizer, earning four of its five corner kicks after halftime and generating late pressure through Annabelle Bachhuber, but the Engineers were unable to find the tying goal.

Ryan led the Engineers with two shots, including one on goal, while Davey recorded RPI's other attempt on target. Byron, Maddy Kaminski, and Bachhuber each added one shot. Gaboury finished with seven saves across her time in goal.
