TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team pushed back from a three-goal deficit and received a two-goal performance from
Chloe Obser, however Dartmouth held on late for a 5–3 decision in the regular season finale this afternoon in Houston Field House.
RPI opened the scoring early on the power play when
Kyley Toye netted her first-period tally five minutes in, cleaning up a scramble in front of the net that included help
Taryn Rathwell and
Mia Montanari to give the Engineers an early edge. The goal was Toye's third of the weekend, following a two-score performance yesterday.
After Dartmouth answered with a pair of power-play goals late in the first and early in the second, RPI continued to generate chances, highlighted by Montanari's team-high six shots and steady puck possession through the neutral zone.
The Engineers mounted a late rally in the third period behind Obser, who scored twice in a span of nine minutes. Her first came off a feed from
Aylah Cioffi, before she struck again at 15:00, finishing a setup from
Sabrina Beaudoin and
Kendal Davidson to cut the deficit to one.
RPI will match up with Colgate in the opening round of the ECAC women's hockey playoffs, with date and time of the single-game contest to be announced.
