TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team continued its early-season homestand today, defeating Keene State College 18-4 at ECAV Stadium.
RPI's offense was paced by a dominant day from
Abigail Couzens, who recorded a game-high seven points on six goals and one assist, while
Kacey Pritts added four points (three goals, one assist). The Engineers received goals from 10 different players, including multi-point performances from
Camille Stackhouse (one goal, two assists),
Ava Gilardone (two goals),
Beckett Houston (one goal, one assist),
Audrey Silverman (one goal, one assist), and
Kira Abdelsayed (one goal, one assist).
The Engineers seized control immediately, exploding to a 6-1 lead after the opening quarter. Couzens set the tone with a hat trick in a span of just over four minutes, as she scored twice unassisted before burying a free-position chance at the midway msrk of the first. Stackhouse followed with a goal off a Pritts feed less than a minute later, and when Keene State got on the board, RPI answered with goals from Houston and Silverman in a 30 second span.
RPI kept building separation in the second quarter, outscoring the Owls 5-0 to take an 11-1 halftime advantage. Pritts opened the period,
Emily Speck converted a free-position goal at 5:53, and Couzens continued her big day with three more in the final five minutes of the half, including two free-position finishes before capping the run with a man-up goal.
Keene State scored three of the first four goals of the secpnd half to trim the margin to 13-4, however RPI answered each push, as Pritts scored unassisted at 13:08,
Lila Kania finished a
Kira Abdelsayed feed a little more than a minute later, and Abdelsayed added an unassisted marker to send the Engineers into the fourth ahead 14-4.
The Engineers closed the game in strong fashion, winning the fourth quarter 4-0. Gilardone sparked the final frame with back-to-back unassisted goals,
Adelaide Hughes notched her first of the season off a Couzens assist, and Pritts put the finishing touch on the afternoon with her third goal with 20 seconds left.
RPI controlled the statistical categories throughout, holding advantages in shots (30-10), shots on goal (24-5), ground balls (17-13), and clears (14-of-15), while forcing 20 Owl turnovers.
The Engineers next host New Paltz at 4:00 pm on Wednesday.
