HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team earned a road point Saturday afternoon but came up just short in a 2–1 overtime decision at Colgate.
Sabrina Beaudoin scored RPI's lone goal late in the second period, while
Reese Keating delivered a season-high 43-save performance in net to keep the Engineers competitive throughout.
After a scoreless opening 39 minutes, RPI broke through at 19:18 of the second when Beaudoin finished an even-strength chance off assists from
Charlotte Wensley and
Aylah Cioffi, giving the Engineers a 1–0 lead heading into the final period.
Colgate tied the game midway through the third period before scoring the game-winner at 2:19 of overtime.
Despite the result, RPI controlled the faceoff circle, winning 31 of 53 draws behind
Georgia Bailey (16 wins) and Beaudoin (12), and successfully killed all three Colgate power plays.
Keating was outstanding between the pipes, turning aside 43 of 45 shots and anchoring a defensive effort that included eight blocked shots from
Kendal Davidson and four more from
Gracyn Mackay.
RPI also generated late power-play chances in regulation and overtime but was unable to find the equalizer as the Engineers closed the weekend with a resilient road performance.
The Engineers return to Houston Field House on Friday to host Harvard at 3:00 pm.
