TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team delivered a strong all-around performance this afternoon, using special teams, timely scoring, and steady goaltending to earn a 4–1 ECAC Hockey victory over Harvard at Houston Field House.
RPI opened the scoring late in the first period on the power play when
Naomi Forand netted her second goal of the season at 18:26, finishing a setup from
Charlotte Wensley and
Gracyn Mackay to give the Engineers a 1–0 edge.
The Engineers broke the game open early in the third period.
Kyley Toye scored the eventual game-winner three minutes into the stanza, finishing an even-strength rush off an assist from
Georgia Bailey.
Less than six minutes later,
Kendal Davidson added a power-play goal at the midway point of the period, as she blasted a shot from the point after a sequence started by
Reese Keating, who earned the assist.
After Harvard briefly cut into the margin midway through the period, RPI responded immediately. Toye struck again at 17:45 for her second goal of the game, sealing the result with assists from Bailey and
Mia Montanari.
Keating was sharp in net, stopping 25 of 26 shots to earn the win, while RPI converted twice on the power play and blocked 14 shots defensively.
RPI closes the regular season tomorrow with a 3:00 pm senior day matchup against Dartmouth.
