WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team faced a stiff road test this afternoon at No. 25 Williams, falling 15-4 at Farley-Lamb Field.
RPI received goals from
Camille Stackhouse,
Quinn Wollard,
Emily Speck, and
Sophia Bunyasaranand, with Stackhouse also providing the Engineers' lone assist on the day. In goal,
Lillian Brady and
Halley Feaga combined for 11 saves.
Williams took control early, scoring six times in the opening quarter. The Ephs struck twice in the first 73 seconds and continued to build separation before Wollard put RPI on the board with an unassisted finish at 3:10. Williams answered late with a man-up goal to carry a 6-1 advantage after one.
The home team extended the margin in the second, scoring five more times to take an 11-1 lead into halftime. Brady made several early saves to keep the Engineers within striking distance, but Williams' pressure created turnovers and transition opportunities throughout the half.
RPI found a spark in the third quarter, with Stackhouse converting a man-up free-position goal to cut the deficit. Williams answered later in the period with a free-position finish of its own to take a 13-2 lead into the final 15 minutes.
The Engineers continued to battle in the fourth and produced two late goals.
Emily Speck finished a Stackhouse assist, and Bunyasaranand followed with an unassisted tally to close out RPI's scoring.
On the road for their last two contests, RPI returns home to host Clarkson in the first Liberty League test of the year at 12:00 pm on Saturday.
