ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team delivered a dominant performance on the road, sweeping RIT by a 7-0 score in Liberty League action at the Midtown Athletic Club.
The Engineers controlled the match from the outset, earning the doubles point with victories across all three positions. At the top spot,
Nicole Ridenour and
Anushka Jaiswal secured a strong 6-3 win, while
Kaaviya Kannan and
Victoria Sarabosing were even more decisive at No. 2 doubles with a 6-0 victory. RPI completed the doubles sweep at the third position, where
Juliette Ceas and
Gauri Muliyil were awarded a walkover win.
RPI carried that momentum into singles play, where the Engineers claimed all six matches to complete the shutout. Ridenour led the way at No. 1 singles, earning a straight-set victory 7-6, 6-1 in a tightly contested opening set before pulling away. At No. 2, Muliyil was dominant in a 6-0, 6-3 win, while Ceas followed with a commanding 6-2, 6-2 victory at the third position.
At No. 4 singles,
Prisha Rapur delivered another strong performance, winning in straight sets 6-1, 7-6 to secure another point for the Engineers. RPI rounded out the sweep with victories at the fifth and sixth positions, as Jaiswal and Sarabosing each earned wins by walkover.
RPI stays out west to challenge Rochester tomorrow afternoon.
