ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team earned a pair of victories in doubles play and a singles win at the top of the lineup, but ultimately fell by a 5-2 score on the road at Rochester.
The Engineers opened the match with a strong showing in doubles, claiming wins at both the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. At the top spot,
Tasmay Shah and
Felix Puyplat were dominant in a 6-1 victory, while
Gustave Viennet and Aidan Atri followed with a hard-fought 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles.
RPI's lone singles victory came at the No. 1 position, where Shah delivered a strong performance with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Andy Liu.
At No. 3 singles, Puyplat battled through three sets, responding after dropping the first set to force a decisive third before falling in a tight finish.
Debarshi Sen also pushed his match to three sets at the fifth position, rallying to take the second set before the match was decided in a super tiebreak. At No. 2 singles, Viennet competed in a two-set match, while Atri battled at the fourth spot against a strong opponent.
The Engineers will head home for their next two matches, beginning with a meeting with Skidmore on Saturday afternoon on Sharpe Courts.
