ORLANDO, Fla. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team split a pair of matches today Orlando, opening the day against Mary Washington before rebounding with a decisive 6-1 victory over Capital.
RPI began the day against Mary Washington, where the Engineers secured their lone team point at the sixth singles position.
Neha Saraswatula earned the victory in a three-set battle, defeating Jacey Copeland 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 to put RPI on the board.
Several other Engineers pushed their matches deep into competition.
Gauri Muliyil battled at No. 2 singles and claimed the opening set 6-2 before Isabella Rotaru rallied to win the next two sets, while
Kayla Wheeler also captured the first set at No. 3 singles before falling in a tightly contested three-set match.
Victoria Sarabosing engaged in a marathon contest at No. 4 singles that ultimately came down to an extended super tiebreak, and
Nicole Ridenour and
Anushka Jaiswal represented RPI at the top and fifth singles positions respectively.
The Engineers responded strongly in their second match of the day against Capital, earning a 6-1 victory behind a sweep of the doubles competition and five singles wins.
RPI opened the match with a commanding performance in doubles play as
Nicole Ridenour and
Anushka Jaiswal secured a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles.
Victoria Sarabosing and
Kayla Wheeler followed with a 6-3 victory at the second position, while
Gauri Muliyil and
Juliette Ceas completed the doubles sweep with a dominant 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
Muliyil delivered a strong performance at No. 1 singles, defeating Annika Hansen in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Sarabosing followed with another convincing victory at No. 3 singles, posting a 6-0, 6-1 decision over Stephanie Makris.
Ceas added a 6-1, 6-0 win at the fourth position, while
Neha Saraswatula earned another straight-set triumph with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles.
Prisha Rapur completed the Engineers' singles victories at No. 6 singles, also winning in straight sets by a 6-0, 6-0 scoreline.
The Engineers will take on Kenyon College tomorrow morning in their final match of their Florida trip.
