GENEVA, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team earned a hard-fought 4-3 victory on the road at Hobart today.
RPI took control early by claiming the doubles point with victories at the first two positions. At No. 1 doubles,
Tsubasa Okada and
Tasmay Shah delivered a dominant performance, earning a 6-2 win. The Engineers followed with another strong effort at No. 2 doubles, where
Gustave Viennet and
Debarshi Sen combined for a 6-4 victory to clinch the doubles advantage.
In singles play, RPI secured three critical victories to reach the four-point total needed for the match win. At the top of the lineup, Okada continued his strong day with a convincing 6-2, 6-4 victory, while Shah followed with a solid 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles.
The decisive match came at the fifth position, where
Felix Puyplat battled through a three-set contest. After dropping the opening set 6-3, Puyplat responded with a 6-3 win in the second before closing out the match with a 7-5 victory in the third set to secure the fourth and final point for RPI.
Elsewhere in the lineup, Viennet and Sen competed at the third and fourth positions, respectively, while Hobart also earned a default at No. 6 singles.
The Engineers next face Union on Tuesday afternoon on Sharp Courts.
