RPI Stung Late at Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team opened a three-goal lead early and carried a late advantage into the final minutes, but Rochester scored the last goal of the afternoon to hand the Engineers a 10-9 Liberty League setback today at Fauver Stadium.

RPI was led by a four-point day from Quinn Wollard (three goals, one assist), while Audrey Silverman matched her with four points on one goal and three assists. Beckett Houston scored twice and the Engineers also got goals from Camille Stackhouse, Abigail Couzens, and Kacey Pritts. Halley Feaga made nine saves in goal.

The Engineers came out sharp and scored three times in the first quarter, highlighted by a Silverman finish off a Wollard feed and an unassisted goal from Stackhouse to take a 3-0 lead before Rochester answered late. RPI continued to produce offensively in the second, getting a man-up goal from Houston, a Couzens finish, a man-up free-position marker from Pritts, and a late goal by Wollard off a Silverman assist to carry a 7-4 lead into halftime.

Rochester tightened the game in the third, holding RPI off the board while scoring twice to make it 7-6 entering the fourth. Wollard opened the final quarter with a free-position goal to restore a two-goal cushion, and after Rochester pulled even at 8-8, Wollard struck again on the man advantage, assisted by Silverman, to put RPI back in front, 9-8, with under six minutes remaining. Rochester tied it again and then scored the go-ahead goal with 71 seconds remaining.

RPI wraps the regular season next Saturday at home against RIT.
