SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team battled through a tightly contested Liberty League matchup on the road, ultimately falling to Union by a narrow 4-3 margin.
The Engineers opened the match with a strong performance at the top doubles position, as
Tsubasa Okada and
Tasmay Shah earned a hard-fought 7-5 victory. Union claimed the remaining two doubles matches, however, taking the point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3.
In singles play, RPI showcased resilience with three victories across the lineup. At No. 1 singles, Okada rebounded after dropping the opening set to secure a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 win, displaying strong adjustments and control over the final two sets.
Gustave Viennet added another point at the fourth position with a solid 7-5, 6-4 victory, while
Felix Puyplat delivered a dominant performance at No. 6 singles, cruising to a 6-0, 6-3 win.
Several other matches proved to be tightly contested. At No. 2 singles, Shah pushed his opponent to three sets after evening the match with a second-set win before falling in the decider.
Sid Srinivasan also battled at No. 3 singles, responding after the first set but unable to complete the comeback, while
Debarshi Sen competed at No. 5 in another challenging matchup.
The Engineers next host Vassar on Sunday afternoon in the squad's final dual meet of the regular season.
