TROY, N.Y. — The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's soccer team opened the 2026 season in commanding fashion tonight, rolling to a 4-0 victory over Westfield State at ECAV Stadium. The Engineers scored twice in each half while outshooting the Owls 18-2 and holding a 10-1 advantage in shots on goal.
RPI needed less than four minutes to take the lead, as
Harrison Brownlow opened the scoring off a setup from
Joshua Jarden. The Engineers continued to control possession and generate chances throughout the opening half, eventually doubling their advantage when
Justin Woodbine converted a feed from
Diego Peredo to make it 2-0.
The Engineers carried that momentum into the second half and quickly added to their lead.
Noah Gregory found the back of the net shortly after the break, finishing a setup from
Owen Filler to extend the margin to 3-0. RPI continued to apply pressure from there, producing a series of chances that included multiple efforts from Brownlow,
Andy Palm, Peredo and
Omar Maksumic.
Woodbine capped the scoring late in the second half with his second goal of the night, converting an assist from
Ben Tymeson to push the RPI advantage to 4-0.
Brownlow finished with four shots and one goal to help lead the RPI attack, while Woodbine totaled three shots, three on goal and two tallies. Peredo also generated three shots on goal while supplying an assist, and Jarden recorded two shots along with his helper on the opening score. Gregory accounted for RPI's other goal, while Filler and Tymeson each collected an assist.
Noah Churchill went the full 90 minutes in goal for the Engineers, making one save to secure the shutout. RPI limited Westfield State to just two total shots and one attempt on goal while finishing with an 18-2 edge in shots and a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
