CLINTON, NY — The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey team suffered a 4-0 road setback against Hamilton this evening at Goodfriend Field.
Hamilton controlled much of the opening quarter, generating five shots and a pair of penalty corners, but
Megan Rice kept the game scoreless with four saves in the period.
The Engineers found their offensive rhythm in the second quarter, producing four shots and three penalty corners. Hamilton, however, broke through following consecutive corners when Olivia Waruch finished a setup from Isabelle Nahon to give the Continentals a 1-0 advantage.
RPI responded with its best sustained pressure of the first half.
Emily Dubord had an attempt blocked before the Engineers earned back-to-back corners later in the quarter. Dubord then had another shot cleared away on a defensive save by Morgan Clarke, while
Jianna Seale followed with an attempt that was stopped by Hamilton goalkeeper Kelly Janssen, allowing the Continentals to carry the one-goal lead into halftime.
The Engineers continued to generate penalty-corner opportunities in the third quarter, earning three more, but were unable to convert. Hamilton doubled its advantage late in the period when Shaw Huston scored off a feed from Alexis Glasofer to make it 2-0 heading into the final frame.
Hamilton added two goals early in the fourth, with Isabelle Nahon and Kenna White extending the margin to 4-0. RPI continued to push late, as
Sophia Brown and Dubord each put shots on goal in the closing minutes, but Janssen turned away both attempts to preserve the shutout.
Dubord led the Engineers with three shots, including two on goal, while Brown and Seale each registered a shot on target.
Ria Patel also recorded an attempt for RPI. Rice finished with six saves.
