TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men’s hockey team is listed 18th in the nation, according to the latest Inside College Hockey.com Power Rankings. The website lists 20 teams on a weekly basis. This is the first time this season that RPI has been recognized.

Rensselaer, under fourth-year head coach Seth Appert, is currently 15-12-3, including an 8-6-2 record in ECAC Hockey. The Engineers are 5-2-2 in their last nine games and 7-3-2 over their last 12 contests.

Junior forward Chase Polacek leads the team in goals (18) and points (41) through 30 games. Nationally he is third in power play goals (10), eighth in points per game (1.37) and 16th in goals per game (0.60). Among ECAC Hockey players, the Edina, Minn., native is first in goals, points, power play goals, power play points (24) and shorthanded points (5). He is second in assists with 23.

Freshman Brandon Pirri, a native of Toronto, Ont., is second on the team with 33 points with eight goals and a team-best 25 assists in 30 games. He is first in the league in assists and freshmen scoring and third in both points and power play points (16). He is second in the nation in points per game by a rookie (1.17) and tenth in overall assists per game (0.90).

In goal, sophomore Allen York has played 85.4% of the games, posting a 12-10-3 record with a 2.58 goals against average and an .908 save percentage. The Wetaskiwin, Alb., native has started each of the last nine games and played in the last 11. He is 5-2-2 with a 1.75 goals against average and a .935 save percentage in his current streak of starts.

The Engineers, who are in fifth place in the ECAC Hockey standings, are back in action on Friday night at Harvard and Saturday night at Dartmouth. Both games begin at 7pm and can be heard live on WRPI, 91.5 FM, and www.wrpi.org.
