TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team spent part of Thursday afternoon in downtown Troy, teaming up with the United Way of the Greater Capital Region to help repair and revitalize a stretch of road near the Menand's Bridge at the bottom of Morrison Avenue.
"This is our chance to give back to the community that supports us," said second-year captain
John Kennedy. "As a team, we're back on campus early and what better way to utilize our downtime than help out the City of Troy."
The goal of the project was to remove the existing blacktopped traffic triangle and replace it with planted shrubbery and mulch. Braving traffic and cloudy skies, members of the men's hockey team used pick-axes and other tools to begin the blacktop removal and make way for the beautification project.
