TROY, N.Y. – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) head men's hockey coach Seth Appert has announced that senior forward CJ Lee will serve as the team's captain during the upcoming 2012-13 season.

"CJ embodies everything we want our program to be about,” said Appert, who is entering his seventh season. “He is a fierce competitor, has great passion for Engineer Hockey, represents our program in a first class manner and cares deeply for his teammates. He is a great example of what it means to be an Engineer."

In 97 career games, Lee has 13 goals and 25 assists for 38 points. The Staten Island, N.Y., native has three power play goals, two game-winning goals and 145 penalty minutes.

Last season he played in all 39 games, ranking third on the team with 18 points (8 goals, 10 assists) and first with 73 penalty minutes. Two of his goals came on the power play and two were game-winners.

Lee had five goals and 12 assists for 17 points in 30 games as a sophomore. Three of his assists came in shorthanded situations, which ranked among the leaders in ECAC Hockey. That followed a freshman campaign in which he had three assists and 25 penalty minutes in 28 games.

Prior to attending Rensselaer, Lee played for the Green Bay Gamblers of United States Hockey League (USHL) for three seasons. He had a team-best 26 goals and 30 assists for 56 points in 58 games in 2008-09, when he captained the team to the Anderson Cup.

A civil engineering major, Lee has been on the Dean's List multiple semesters and has been an ECAC Hockey All-Academic honoree each year.

Rensselaer opens the season on October 12-13 when it hosts Ferris State, which played in the national championship game a year ago, at the Houston Field House. RPI will prepare for that series with an exhibition game on Saturday night against Acadia University this Saturday at 7pm. Tickets for all three games remain available.
