MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Sophomore Matt Robertson recorded a game-high four points to lead the second-ranked Ferris State Bulldogs to a 6-2 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), this afternoon in game one of the Mariucci Classic at Mariucci Arena. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 15-2-3, while the Engineers drop to 8-7-4.

Ferris State jumped out to a 2-0 lead midway through the first period as senior Garrett Thompson (Traverse City, MI) and junior Justin Buzzeo (Winsor, ON) found the back of the net. Buzzeo's tally, which came on the power-play, was assisted by Thompson and Robertson (Rohnert Park, CA).

Sophomore Milos Bubela (Banka Bystrica, Slovakia/Dubuque Fighting Saints) brought Rensselaer to within 2-1 at 17:24 of the opening frame, when he took a feed from classmate Matt Neal (Minesing, ON/Stoufville Spirit) and ripped a shot past Ferris State junior netminder CJ Mott (St. Clair, MI). The goal was his Bubela's second of the season.

The Bulldogs picked up a pair of goals in the second period to take a 4-1 lead after two. Freshman Chad McDonald (Battle Creek, MI) buried his fifth of the year off of a Engineers' defensive zone turnover. Robertson then netted the first of his two goals on the power-play at 8:04 of the second.

Freshman Travis White (Sterling Heights, MI) beat Rensselaer junior goaltender Scott Diebold (Buffalo, NY/Tri-City Storm) five-hole for his first collegiate goal at 1:23 of the third period.

Rensselaer came back at 11:13 of the frame, when sophomore Mike Zalewski (New Hartford, NY/Vernon Vipers) ripped a shot off the left post and in. Scoring for the third time this season, Zalewski's shorthanded marker was assisted by classmate Chris Bradley (Williamsville, NY/Youngstown Phantoms) and senior Guy Leboeuf (West Palm Beach, FL/Cornwall Colts).

Motte (15-0-3) finished with 32 saves, while Diebold made 24. Ferris State went 2 for 5 on the man-advantage, while RPI was 1 for 5.

The Engineers are back in action tomorrow, when they take on either first-ranked Minnesota or Colgate at Mariucci Arena. They will play at either 5pm or 8pm ET, depending on the outcome of the second tournament game.
