TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's and women's hockey teams have each added a volunteer assistant coach for the 2014-15 season. Former Engineers standout Marc Cavosie will work with the men's team, while Robert Cathcart III will aid the women's program.

A native of Albany, N.Y., Cavosie rejoins the Engineers after playing for the Cherry & White from 1999-02. In 95 games, he recorded 48 goals and 60 assists for 108 points. Eighteen of his goals came on the power-play, six were shorthanded tallies and eight were game-winners.

Cavosie played in 361 games over nine years in the American Hockey League (AHL), racking up 35 goals and 88 assists for 123 points. He has also played for Rogle BK in Sweden, HK Jesenice in Austria and the Oji Eagles and Tohoku Free Blades of Asia League Ice Hockey.

Highlights of Cavosie's amateur career include being named to the USA Under-20 World Championship Team (2000), ECAC All-Rookie Team (1999-00), ECAC First All-Star Team (2001-02), NCAA First Team All-America (2001-02) and a Hobey Baker Finalist (2002). Professionally, he won a Calder Cup with the Houston Aeros in 2002-03, before winning an Asia League Championship as the league's Playoff MVP in 2011-12.

Hailing from Guilderland, N.Y., Cathart III joins the women's staff after spending the last two seasons as both an assistant and head coach for the Schenectady Youth Hockey Association (SYHA), where he continues to work. His duties will be to assist with video breakdown, statistical analysis and on-ice coaching.

A 2008 graduate of Boston College's Carroll School of Management, Cathart III is currently working on his Masters in Sports Administration at Canisius College. He has worked on the ice crew at HSBC Arena in Buffalo, N.Y., as well as on the Boston College Bull Gang, preparing both the football and basketball facilities for game day.

Cathart III also spent three years running sports camps for the National Youth Sports Program at Canisius, where he worked with close to 100 campers on a weekly basis.

The men's team opens its regular season schedule on Friday night (7:35pm), when it travels to South Bend, Ind., to face 12th-ranked Notre Dame in the first round of the Icebreaker Tournament. The Engineers face either first-ranked Minnesota or Minnesota-Duluth on Sunday (12:05pm).

The women are home to Vermont on Saturday (3pm), which will be part of the Reunion & Homecoming Weekend festivities at RPI. The Engineers travel to Burlington, Vt., on Sunday (2pm), to complete the home-and-home series with the Catamounts.
