Box Score Box ScorePRINCETON, NJ -- Five different players scored for the Engineers, as Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) skated to a 5-2 win over Princeton in ECAC Men's Hockey action on Saturday evening at Hobey Baker Rink. With the win, which ended an nine-game skid for the Engineers, improved RPI to 7-16-1 overall, with a 5-6-0 league slate, while Princeton dropped to 2-14-1 overall, and 1-11-0 in ECAC action.
The Engineers took a 3-0 lead in the first period.
Curtis Leonard put RPI on the board at 5:36, with assists to
Jacob Laliberte and
Matt Neal. At 11:06,
Drew Melanson got RPI up 2-0, as he scored top shelf on a breakaway.
Zach Schroeder and Leonard picked up assists on the tally. The final goal of the period came just over two minutes later, as
Chris Bradley took assists from
Luke Curadi and
Jake Wood.
RPI added a fourth goal at 12:33 of the second, as
Matt Neal scored his first goal of the season on a power play opportunity. Princeton got on the board later in the period, as Tom Kroshus scored at 19:18. Kroshus pulled the Tigers to within two, 4-2, 7:09 into the third period, getting assists from Jonathan Liau and Kyle Rankin. However,
Viktor Liljegren tallied one more for the Engineers, as Princeton pulled their goaltender in the final minute.Â
Princeton outshot Rensselaer, 37-30, including an 18-9 margin in the first period. RPI was 1-for-2 on power play opportunities, while Princeton went 0-for-3 on the extra man.
Jason Kasdorf recorded 35 saves for the Engineers in 60:00 of action, while Colton Phinney recorded 25 stops between the Pipes for the Tigers.
Rensselaer will return to action on Friday, Jan. 16, hosting Colgate in ECAC Hockey action at the Houston Field House at 7 p.m.
