RPI FanShopHAMILTON, N.Y. - Brothers Tyson and Tylor Spink each had a goal and two assists to lead the Colgate University men's hockey team to a 4-2 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in an ECAC Hockey contest at Starr Rink. The Engineers, who got 25 saves from
Jason Kasdorf, fall to 9-23-2 overall and 7-12-1 in the league. The Raiders have won three straight games and improve to 18-11-3 and 10-7-3.
Tylor Spink opened the scoring just a minute into the first period off an assist from Tyson. Rensselaer tied the game approximately 10 minutes later when defenseman
Chris Bradley tallied his fourth goal of the season. Bradley's shot from the right point deflected off a Colgate defender and past netminder Charlie Finn.
Drew Melanson earned the only assist on Bradley's marker, which came during 4-on-4 action.
Three goals were scored in the second period, two by the Raiders. Tyson Spink scored his 12th of the season at the 4:50 mark, but RPI senior
Mark McGowan answered 1:55 later. McGowen's point shot was deflected on its way towards the goal before beating Finn inside the right post for his fifth goal of the season. The tally was set up by
Jacob Laliberte and
Jared Wilson. The tie score only lasted 33 seconds, however, as Darcy Murphy scored what would be the game-winning goal at 7:18 of the middle frame.
The Spinks set up the only marker of the third period, this off the stick of Kyle Baun, his 12th of the year, at 14:26 of the frame.
Kasdorf had seven saves in the first period, six in the second and 12 in the third, while Finn made 23 stops on the other end, including 11 in the second period.
The Engineers close out the regular season with home games against Clarkson University and St. Lawrence University next weekend. Colgate travels to Yale University and Brown University next Friday and Saturday.
RPI has 15 points in league play and is three points behind Clarkson for the eighth and final home-ice spot in the first round of the ECAC Hockey playoffs. The Raiders are tied with Harvard University for fourth place, though the Crimson hold the tiebreaker.
