With the win, the Saints improve to 15-10-2 overall (11-4-0 ECAC Hockey), while the Engineers drop to 9-19-1 (7-8-0 ECAC Hockey).
St. Lawrence took advantage of a pair of early RPI miscues to take a 2-0 lead in the first period. Freshman Nolan Gluchowski (Wixom, MI/Sioux Falls) drove the net from the right wall and saw his shot deflect to sophomore Alex Dahl (Eau Claire, WI/Youngstown) for an easy tap-in at the left post. The goal, which came at 5:54 of the opening stanza, was Dahl's third of the season.
Horn (Plymouth, MN/Sioux City) made it 2-0 at 11:17 of the first, intercepting a pass in the offensive zone, and firing a shot into the top right corner of the net. The unassisted tally was his fifth of the campaign.
RPI senior
Matt Neal (Minesing, ON/Stoufville Spirit) scored just 1:25 into the second period to pull the visitors to within 2-1. Taking a feed up the middle of the ice from junior
Mark Miller (Massena, NY/Omaha Lancers), Neal walked in on a breakaway and scored past Hayton (Denver, CO/Sioux City) high blocker side for his fifth goal of the year.
The Saints, who finished 0 for 5 on the power play, added an insurance goal at 10:47 of the third on a play set up by freshman Joe Sullivan (Las Vegas, NV/Indiana) from behind the RPI cage. Sullivan fought through the hold of an Engineers defenseman to work the puck to the front of the net for classmate Mike Marnell (South Huntington, NY/Des Moines), who chipped it past junior netminder
Jason Kasdorf (Winnipeg, MB/Des Moines Bucs) for his sixth of the season.
The Engineers, who were 0 for 3 on the man advantage, pulled Kasdorf for an extra attacker with under two minutes to play, but were unable to solve Hayton (15-9-2) for a second time. Kasdorf (9-13-0) ended the night with 23 saves.
RPI is back on the ice on Saturday, when its visit Clarkson University (7pm). The Saints host Union College (7pm).
