TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer men's soccer team held Clarkson to just six shots and shut out the Golden Knights, 2-0, at Renwyck Field. With the win, the Red Hawks improve to 9-2-1 overall, including a perfect 4-0 in Liberty League play. Clarkson falls to 5-7-1 on the year and 0-5 in the league.

RPI is unbeaten in its last five games overall (4-0-1), which have all been shutouts. The Red Hawks have also not allowed a goal in four league games, outscoring its Liberty League foes 6-0 so far this season.

After a scoreless first half, in which Rensselaer out-shot Clarkson 17-1, the Red Hawks were able to find the scoresheet in the 56th minute. Senior Jabel Prom (Sandy Springs, MD/Sherwood) blasted a volley from the top of the penalty area just under the crossbar, for the 1-0 lead. Prom picked up the loose ball after the Golden Knights failed to clear an RPI corner.

Sophomore Bryce Hutchinson (Elverson, PA/Twin Valley) gave RPI a 2-0 advantage in the 71st minute. He turned around his defender at the top of the 18 and finished low, just inside the right post.

Rensselaer finished with a 28-6 edge in shots, including 8-2 in shots on goal. The Red Hawks held a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Hutchinson finished the game with a team-high four shots on goal, which he shared with freshman Andrew Tambasco (Clifton Park, NY/Shenedehowa). Clarkson freshman Tobin Boomer (Louisville, KY/Trinity) led the Golden Knights with two shots, with one of those find the target.

Sophomore Alex Penny (Northport, NY/Northport) stopped the only shot he faced before he was replaced by freshman Mike Prince (Cincinnati, OH/ Sycamore) in the 80th minute. Prince also had one save. Clarkson senior goalie Mike St. Croix (Watertown, NY/Immaculate Heart) finished with six stops.

The Red Hawks return to action on Wednesday, when they visit Keene St. (6:30pm). The Golden Knights host Skidmore and Union next Friday (3pm) and Saturday (1pm), respectively.
