BABSON PARK, Mass. – Junior Todd Sheridan (Galloway, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) headed home the only goal of the game in the 89th minute to give the Stevens Institute men's soccer a 1-0 victory over Rensselaer, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Hartwell-Rogers Field. With the win the Ducks improve to 16-2-2, and advance to the regional quarterfinal. The Red Hawks conclude their season with a 13-6-1 record.

Stevens' goal was set up by Craig Moquin (Breinigsville, PA/Parkland), who delivered a cross from the right onto the head of Sheridan who finished into the upper corner of the net.

After the Ducks had a few early chances that came up short, Rensselaer took control and held the play for much of the first half. The Red Hawks best chance came when sophomore Ben Poser's (Scotts Valley, CA / Scotts Valley) blast from 25 yards out was stopped by Stevens' sophomore netminder Zach Carr (Carmel, IN/Carmel) in the 21st minute.

Sophomore Bryan De Faria (Hillside, NJ/St. Benedicts) had an opportunity to get the Ducks on the board in the 37th minute, but his shot sailed just high and wide of the net. Despite out-shooting RPI 6-5 in the first half, the Red Hawks held a 5-1 edge in shots on goal.

The second half was played very evenly, with Rensselaer holding a slight 7-6 in shots. After Sheridan's goal in the 89th minute, the Red Hawks had a flurry of opportunities to score before the final whistle, including a shot by freshman Andrew Tambasco (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) that was blocked. Junior Sean Fleury (Princeton, MA / Wachusett Regional) had one final chance but his shot was kept out of the net by a Ducks' defender.

Carr finished with six saves in picking up the victory, while Red Hawks goalie Alex Penny (Northport, NY/Northport) made two stops.
