TROY, N.Y. – Dartmouth College scored three power play goals, including two from sophomore defenseman Joe Stejskal and the Big Green defeated Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), 5-2, in an ECAC Hockey game at the Houston Field House.

Dartmouth (2-2-0; 2-1-0 ECAC Hockey) scored first on a wrist shot from the bottom of the right faceoff circle by sophomore forward Scott Fleming (Plainfield, ON/Wellington Dukes). Freshman defenseman Jim Gaudet (Etna, NH/New Hampshire Junior Monarchs) started the play when he blocked a shot, gained possession in the defensive zone and passed the puck to his brother, Joe (Hanover, NH/New Hampshire Junior Monarchs), who skated the puck up the right side of the ice. Joe Gaudet fed Fleming, who beat RPI goaltender Allen York (Wetaskiwin, AB/Camrose Kodiaks) at 14:56 of the first period for his third goal in the last two games.

RPI (2-6-1; 1-2-0) needed just 1:15 to tie the score as sophomore Chase Polacek (Edina, MN/Academy of Holy Angels) finished a 3-on-1 with a chip shot over freshman goaltender Jody O'Neill (Nepean, ON/Smiths Falls Bears) from just outside the crease. Classmate Tyler Helfrich (Calgary, AB/Prince George Spruce Kings) and freshman Josh Rabbani (Woodland Hills, CA/St. Louis Bandits) earned assists on the play. Polacek (3 goals, 2 assists) and Helfrich (5 assists) both extended their personal point streaks to five games.

The Big Green regained the lead 24 seconds into the second period, this time on a power play goal from Stejskal (Grand Rapids, MN/Grand Rapids), who scored off a rebound. Doug Jones (Marietta, GA/Cedar Rapids Roughriders) had the initial shot that was saved, while Adam Estoclet (Orono, MN/Benilde-St. Margaret's) earned the secondary assist.

Dartmouth went ahead 3-1 on Stejskal's second goal of the period, and fourth of the season – again with the Big Green skating with the man-advantage at 16:28. Estoclet and Jones were credited with the helpers.

RPI got the power play goal back late in the period when freshman forward Patrick Cullen (Washington, DC/Indiana Ice) scored on a slap shot from the right faceoff circle with seven seconds remaining in the second. Sophomore Mark Zarbo (Grand Island, NY/Bentley College) fed Cullen for the first assist and Paul Kerins (Weston, ON/North York Rangers) tallied the second.

Dartmouth's third power play goal, this one off the stick of blueliner Evan Stephens (Bessemer, MI/Cedar Rapids Roughridgers), gave the visitors a 4-2 lead at 12:56 of the third period. Jones and Estoclet both earned their third assists of the contest. Fleming's empty net goal with 1:16 remaining finished the scoring.

O'Neill finished with 26 saves for the victory, while York stopped 31 shots.

Rensselaer returns to the ice when they host nationally-ranked Princeton University next Friday night at 7pm. Dartmouth welcomes St. Lawrence University next Friday at 7pm. Both games are ECAC Hockey contests.
