Colorado College hands Red Hawks first loss of season, 3-0

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Led by a two-goal first-half effort, Colorado College held on for a 3-0 victory over Rensselaer in men's soccer action on Sunday afternoon. The loss drops the Red Hawks to 5-1, ending RPI's eight-game winning streak. The Tigers are now 5-1. 

Colorado College opened up the scoring just 7:08 into the game on a tally by Trevor Cobb (Corrales, NM). Off a cross from the right by Brendan Douglas (Lake Oswego, OR), Cobb sent the ball past Red Hawks goalie Alex Penny (Northport, NY/Northport). 

The Tigers added to its lead less than five minutes later as a shot from a sharp angle at the right side by Logan Boccard (Broomfield, CO) put the Tigers ahead 2-0 at 11:51. Jordan Reese (Montrose, CO) was awarded the assist.

In the second half, the visiting Red Hawks outshot Colorado College, 8-5, but were unable to find the back of the net. Douglas and Cobb teamed up once more to give the Tigers an insurance goal at 88:36 as Douglas put one past Penny for the 3-0 lead.

Sophomore Blake Adams (Cedar Grove, NJ/Seton Hall Prepatory) had a game-high five shots for the Red Hawks, which held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. Penny made three saves in the loss.

In goal for the Tigers, Brian Engle (Bend, OR) stopped three shots to pick up the win.

Rensselaer, which won its final three games of the 2007 season, returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Ithaca (1pm). Colorado College is in action on September 26 when it hosts Birmingham-Southern (4pm).
