SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute ((RPI) men's soccer team scored a goal with 7:52 left to play as the Red Hawks downed Skidmore College, 1-0, in Liberty League action on a rainy afternoon at Wachenheim Field.  It was the league opener for both squads.

With the victory, RPI improves to 6-2, snapping a four-game Skidmore unbeaten streak in the process.  The Thoroughbreds fall to 4-3-2.

Following the Red Hawks 11th corner of the game, sophomore Ben Poser (Scotts Valley, CA/Scotts Valley) collected the ball and found junior Kevin Swift (Clifton Park, NY/Shenedehowa), who rifled it to the top for the game's only score at 82:08.

Skidmore's best chance to score came off a hard drive by sophomore Doug Yeates (Richmond, VT) that was stopped by a diving Alex Penny (Northport, NY/Northport).

Thoroughbreds keeper Nick Peterson (West Hartford, CT) had another solid game with six saves. Penny collected three saves for RPI.

Skidmore hosts Vassar Saturday for a 2pm start.  RPI plays at Union on Saturday at 2pm.
