POTSDAM, N.Y. - For the second straight night, senior Shea Guthrie (Carleton Place, ONT) capped off a thrilling finish for the Clarkson University hockey team, knocking in the game-winning goal for his second score of the night to lift the Golden Knights to a 4-3 overtime triumph over Rensselaer Saturday before 2,787 fans at Cheel Arena.

Guthrie also scored the deciding goal in Friday's 4-3 overtime win against Union. Clarkson, which has won four straight games all by the same 4-3 margin, including the last three contests in overtime, improves its record to 7-13-4 overall and to 5-6-1 in ECAC Hockey.

Trailing 3-2 late in the third, Guthrie took a pass from junior Tim Marks (Brownville, NY), skated around a RPI defenseman and fired off quick wrist shot from the left circle to tie the game at 15:24.

At 1:51 of overtime, the reigning ECAC Hockey Player of the Week struck again for his third goal of the weekend and seventh of the season. Guthrie took a pass from sophomore Matt Beca (Mississauga, ONT) along the right boards, skated behind the Rensselaer net and then sent a wrist shot from the left circle past RPI senior goaltender Mathias Lange (Klagenfurt, Austria) for his third game-winning goal in the past four contests. Senior Dan Tuttle (Augusta, ME) also assisted on the deciding goal, which extended the Green and Gold's unbeaten streak over Rensselaer to five games (4-0-1).

For the fourth straight game, the Golden Knights started the scoring as freshman defenseman Mark Borowiecki (Kanata, ONT) tallied his first collegiate goal. Hard work down low by linemates, freshman Jake Morley (Ogdensburg, NY) and junior Tim Marks (Brownville, NY), freed the puck up along the back boards to Borowiecki, who skated out of the corner and slipped in a low shot at 3:23.

Less than a minute later, however, the Engineers came right back to tie with sophomore Tyler Helfrich's (Calgary, ALB) goal at 4;12. Sophomores John Kennedy (Saginaw, MI) and #Chase Polacek (Edina, MN)# assisted.

Benefiting from its third straight man-advantage opportunity of the stanza, Rensselaer took the lead in the final minute of the first when senior Matt Angers-Goulet (St. Agustin, QUE) knocked in a loose puck during a scramble in front for a power-play marker at 19:14. Junior Paul Kerins (Weston, ONT) and sophomore Bryan Brutlag (Lakeville, MN) set up the goal.

After being out shot 15-6 through the first 20 minutes, Clarkson picked up its play in the middle frame and the pressure paid off midway through the period. Senior Chris D'Alvise (Mississauga, ONT) took a soft pass off the left boards from Beca and broke in alone on the RPI goal, where he sent a shot on net that trickle over the goal at 13:54 after Lange got a piece of it. Guthrie also picked up an assist.

Rensselaer took advantage of penalty troubles by the Knights late in the period and regained the lead with a 5-on-3 power-play score by Brutlag at 17:23 with freshman Patrick Cullen (Washington, DC) and Helfrich assisting to put the Engineers on top 3-2 through 40 minutes.

Rensselaer outshot Clarkson 32-22. Freshman Paul Karpowich (Thunder Bay, ONT) posted 29 saves, including 13 in the first period, to earn his fifth collegiate victory. Lange made 18 stops. The Knights went 0-of-3 on the power play, while the Engineers went 2-of-8 with the man advantage.
