The Inaugural Military Appreciation Night was set up to recognize not only the three ROTC branches on the Rensselaer campus, but also to honor all military personnel who are currently serving or who have previously served our country. All military personnel who provided their military ID to the Houston Field House box office received free admission to the RPI men's hockey game against Colgate on January 16.
Among the special elements of the night included the presentation of the colors, recognition of local military personnel who have re-enlisted, a decorated USMC Humvee, and on-ice competitions. In fact, the three ROTC branches on campus competed on skates where they had to put on a jersey, hockey pants and gloves before shooting the puck into the opposing net.
Undoubtedly the best part of the evening for the more than 250 military personnel in attendance was an Engineers' victory, 3-2 in overtime over the Raiders.
